Radio. AKA: Advertising's naked bastard stepchild. But if done right, it's a thing of beauty. It separates real writers from people who can occasionally write a witty line or two. Hundreds of spots later, it's still one of my favorite mediums to work in. Here are a few of my favorites.
Burger King - Whopperella Radio
With this series of spots for BK Spain, we created Telenovelas (Spanish Soap Operas) based around the Whopper, making the world’s most famous flame-broiled burger an integral part of the story. We called them "Whopperellas." Using familiar plots/themes you're used to hearing in these telenovelas we turned them on their heads with the addition of BK's famous burger.
Plots: Grandma wakes up from the coma -- because she smells someone visiting with a Whopper. The twin brother (who we thought was lost) returns because he just stepped out for a Whopper and stayed at Burger King to have several more. And finally, this one where everyone thinks a woman is cheating on her husband every night with her lover. But really she's just going to Burger King to have her tasty Whopper. Unfortunately, they were all in Spanish. But if you're bi-lingual you’ll enjoy it.
